The UK has recently experienced its deepest recession since the Second World War. The IFS’s journal, Fiscal Studies, is publishing a special issue on what has happened to labour productivity, wages, income, consumption, wealth and investment in the UK over the course of the recession. It also considers some of the potential policy implications of these patterns.

Join us at an event marking the publication of this issue on Wednesday 12th June at which Paul Johnson, Director of IFS, will provide an overview of the findings, while Claire Crawford and Wenchao Jin will delve further into the findings on labour productivity and wages. Specifically:

  • What has happened to labour productivity, firm investment and wages in the UK since 2008?
  • How does this vary across different types of firms?
  • To what extent can changes in the composition of firms or workers in the economy help to explain these patterns?
  • How does this compare to what has happened in previous recessions and what might help to explain these differences?

The event will start at 10am and run until 11.30am. Registration will take place from 9.30am. Places are free of charge
