Alejandro is an Assistant Professor of Development Economics at Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. His research interests are in labour economics, public finance, international development, and macroeconomic policy. His recent work studies the effect of improvements to female labour market participation on violence against women in the developing world. His past professional experience includes working as a policy analyst and advisor at the Presidency of the Republic of Mexico.

We characterize optimal enforcement and taxation policies as functions of revenue elasticities and measures of taxpayer hardship. We estimate these parameters using multiple sources of variation and administrative data from Mexico City.
