As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science, IFS is holding a briefing "How does inflation affect different people?" During this presentation we will look at what inflation means and how it is calculated. Until recently, inflation was approaching a near 20 year high and although the current rate of inflation is low, it is not necessarily low for everyone. Whilst homeowners may be benefitting from falling mortgage interest payments, other groups may still be feeling the effect of high food and fuel prices compared to a year ago. As well as discussing the effects of inflation on different demographic groups, we will also look at trends over time.
