Since October 2012, the UK has been carrying out the first ever nationwide roll-out of automatic enrolment into workplace pensions. As the government begins its review of this policy, at this event we are launching new IFS work on the impact of this important reform. In particular, using data from almost half a million jobs, we will examine the effect of automatic enrolment on:

  • Membership of workplace pensions among the target population, and how this differs for different types of employees;
  • Contributions to workplace pensions from employees and employers;
  • Pension outcomes for those outside the target group.

A response to the research findings will be given by Richard Harrington MP, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State responsible for pensions at the Department for Work and Pensions. This will be followed by a question and answer session, and then a drinks reception from 17:30 - 18:30.

We are grateful to the ABI for hosting this event.
