COVID shows how the state can address social inequality

COVID-19 has vividly highlighted pre-pandemic inequalities but there could be no worse outcome to the pandemic, Angus Deaton argues, than the UK returning to further cuts in public services and welfare provision. If that happens, those most hurt by Covid-19 will be forced to pay for it as well.
