Childcare closures during the COVID-19 pandemic have underlined the importance of access to childcare, both to support work and to help shape young children’s environment. However, the pandemic is likely to have had severe consequences for the finances of childcare providers, which in several parts of the sector were already weak going into the crisis.

At this event, we will analyse how the pandemic is likely to have affected childcare providers' financial health during the lockdown, as well as how they might be affected over the coming months. We will also discuss whether there is a case for the government to intervene further to support the sector.

Speakers:

  • Christine Farquharson, Institute for Fiscal Studies
  • Megan Jarvie, Coram Family and Childcare
  • Gillian Paull, Frontier Economics
