About IFS election analysis

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) is the UK’s leading independent economics research institute. We are objective, non-profit and non-partisan.

We do not have links to any political party. Our academic research is at the cutting edge of data analysis, economic modelling and other empirical methods. At election time, we provide rigorous, evidence-based analysis of the key economic issues facing the UK and the main parties’ policy proposals for addressing them. We aim to inform the debate and help journalists, politicians, policymakers and – above all – the general public understand the impacts that different policy options will have on individuals, households and businesses.

In the run-up to the 2024 general election, IFS will produce analysis covering a range of election-relevant topics, from the state of the public finances to NHS waiting lists, from green investment to household living standards, from schools spending to the taxation of ‘non-doms’ and inheritances. We will analyse the government’s record in depth and provide scrutiny of proposals for the future. In almost all cases, data will be available to download from the dedicated IFS election website, supplemented by a range of interactive tools to allow users to explore the issues for themselves.

Throughout, our analysis will be free from political influence and informed by the best available evidence.
