Centre for the Economics of Education was established in March 2000 and is sponsored by the Department for Education and Skills, and has been set up to undertake systematic and innovative research in the field of the economics of education. The CEE will investigate a broad range of policy questions and address issues that have previously only been tackled in a more piecemeal fashion by individual researchers. It is a genuinely interdisciplinary research centre, which includes experts in the fields of education, economics and statistics. The three partners in the venture are the Centre for Economic Performance at LSE, the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Institute of Education. All three partners have a proven and distinguished track record in the economics of education and training, and a great breadth of knowledge on policy relevant issues relating to education, training and the labour market.
The CEE is headed by Professor Stephen Machin, an expert in the economics of education and currently Professor of Economics at University College London. He is also affiliated with both the Centre for Economic Performance and the Institute for Fiscal Studies. For further information please contact cee@lse.ac.uk
