Poverty amongst pensioners in the UK continues to be a concern both for government and for society in general. With the proportion of the population aged 65 and over projected to increase sharply over the next few decades, this is an issue of increasing importance.
This research uses data from a survey of individuals aged 50 and over in England and a dynamic microsimulation model to simulate the evolution of the pensioner population up to 2017-18 and to look at the likely effect on pensioner poverty during this period of a variety of potential policy reforms, including those announced in the 2006 Pensions White Paper.
