Incomes of the elderly and income inequality in the older population
Funded by: Cera Consortium
Date started: 01 January 2004
This research looks at the level and sources of incomes of older individuals and households and how inequalities in this population are related to other factors and inequalities in other dimensions, such as health. As yet the research is at a relatively early stage, although a number of studies have looked at the incomes of pensioners and at the relative importance of various sources of income.

IFS Briefing Notes
Article
In this briefing note we add to the current debate on UK annuity markets by providing some simple descriptive analysis from household survey data. In particular, using data from recent waves of the Family Resources Survey, we consider how the current population of (elderly) annuitants differs from the elderly population at large, and describe differences in the characteristics of the group holding voluntary, as opposed to mandatory annuity policies.
