'It's not OK!' is a group of violence-prevention interventions which aim to change young people's attitudes towards key issues such as alcohol use, racism, homophobic violence, arson and other anti-social behaviour, abusive relationships and guns and gangs. The interventions are designed to be delivered by teachers and usually consist of three types of materials: lesson plans, an interactive CD-ROM and, in the majority of cases, a topical bespoke film or theatre play. Importantly, the themes of each of the interventions are mapped against a curriculum of a chosen subject, such as PSHE, English, Mathematics or Science and can be used both for coursework assessment and exam preparation. For example, the script of the bespoke play can be discussed in English clasees or the statistics and data handling unit in Mathematics can include data on alcohol consumption. Furthermore, the interactive CD-ROM includes games and activities, such as acting as an 'agony aunt' and responding creatively to problems that young people may have. The programme has a dual aim of changing young people's attitudes towards problematic issues as well as increasing attainment by supporting the national curriculum so that students become more engaged.
