The forecast of child poverty in 2010/11, originally commissioned by JRF, continues to be a powerful statistic, used extensively by NGOs and cited widely in the media. The forecast was based on data on households originally sampled in April 2002 - March 2004, and on demographic and economic forecasts for 2010 & 2020 made over the period 2005 - 2006. To improve the accuracy, and to maintain the credibility, of the forecast, an update of this baseline is needed. This project will update the forecast of child poverty in 2010 and 2020, and set out the cost of various policies that would help the government meet its target. The project will report in time to inform Budget 2009.
