How departure of the household head affects children's schooling and work
In this work we investigate how the permanent loss of the household head from the household affects children's school enrolment and work participation in rural Colombia. We consider losses that are due to death or divorce, and that we can therefore be confident are adverse events. We are interested in school and work participation because it is well-known that they affect crucially the human capital accumulation of children, though we should point out that we measure only short-term impacts in this work.
