This project investigates the effects of adverse shocks on school enrolment of children in rural Colombia, as well as on their time spent in school and work. We consider a range of shocks. The first relate to the household head, and include the departure of the household head due to death/divorce, and the recent serious illness of the household head. The second relate to elderly adults, and include their recent departure from the household, and recent serious illness. The third relate to the ill-health of school-aged siblings. We estimate the effects using a three-year panel of households, and deal with the potential endogeneity of shocks through fixed effects estimation.
Sample: Sample of households with children aged 7 - 17 years. Search |
