    The Mexican government started, in 1998, a large welfare program, called Progresa, targeted at rural Mexico. The program consisted of three components, education, health and nutrition and has received a considerable amount of attention, both in the academic and public policy debate.
  • Familias en Acción, Colombia [details of programme]

    Familias en acción is one of three programs run by the Colombian government and financed by a loan from the World Bank and the IADB. The program is very similar to the Mexican Progresa and consists of cash transfers conditional mainly on school attendance.
