David joined the IFS in 2006 and is now a Senior Research Economist working in two sectors: EDePo and Direct Tax and Welfare.

David is currently conducting work in a number of areas. Firstly, he is working with Costas Meghir and Guy Laroque on models of family labour supply, a piece of work that has grown out of his work for the Mirrlees Review. He is also involved in work looking at poverty and inequality in the UK, the tax and benefit system, and labour supply more generally. His work for EDePo focuses upon investigating the impact of welfare programmes in Colombia on social capital (through experimental games), and the impact of price rises on poor households in Colombia and Mexico.
