Robert Chote, the Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, has been confirmed as the next Chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility, the newly created independent fiscal watchdog. Robert will stand down as Director of the IFS on October 1, having served eight years in the post. Carl Emmerson, currently Deputy Director of the IFS, will then serve as Acting Director until a permanent replacement is appointed.
