The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced today that he has nominated Robert Chote, the Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, as the next Chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility, the newly created independent fiscal watchdog. If Robert's appointment is approved by the Treasury Select Committee, he will stand down as Director of the IFS on October 1, having served eight years in the post. Carl Emmerson, currently Deputy Director of the IFS, will then serve as Acting Director until a permanent replacement is appointed. |
