The UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has announced new funding for cemmap which from 2007 becomes an ESRC Research Centre funded for ten years subject to mid-term review in 2012.
cemmap was created through the generous support of the Leverhulme Trust whose funding ceases in 2007. The new ESRC support is at a substantially higher level, and this, with the expanded time horizon, will allow expansion of cemmap's research and training in microdata methods and practice. New researchers joining the new cemmap include Jerome Adda (UCL), Jean Marc Robin (Paris I Sorbonne and UCL) and James Heckman (Chicago and UCL). cemmap will also be making new research appointments and admitting new doctoral students. The Centre will develop and foster econometric skills and resources that will complement those from other areas of social science already brought together under the umbrella of the National Centre for Research Methods. New topics for research include identification in models with multiple unobservable variables, dynamic models with heterogeneity and non-convexities, empirical models with feedback effects and multiple topics in applied health and labour economics. The Master Class, workshop and training course programmes will be expanded and explore new directions. Researchers at the Centre will continue to develop our national and international network of Fellows and to expand our contacts with users in the public and private sectors through tailored training courses and seminars. cemmap will continue to manage the EU Research and Training Network, Microdata Methods and Practice with 12 partner and affiliated institutions located in 10 European countries and the USA. |
