Environmental policy statement

The IFS recognises that climate change is a serious global problem. As an organisation, we are committed to minimising our contribution to climate change. To meet this goal we aim to reduce our current measured carbon footprint by 5% within a year and by 10% within 3 years.

In recent years we have already made a number of changes to reduce our environmental impact. For example, we have comprehensive recycling facilities. We are also avid cyclers - over half of our core staff cycle (or run) to work.

Going forward there are a number of things we will do to achieve our environmental objectives:

  1. Reduce our carbon footprint by 5% in the first year of our carbon reduction programme by implementing specific energy saving practices - for example, we are going to remove unnecessary lights and have a staff drive to ensure that lights and computers are only only when being used.
  2. Raise awareness internally through our carbon reduction action plan of the steps all staff need to take to reduce our carbon footprint
  3. Work closely with our landlord to help reduce the carbon footprint of the building and thus work towards our target
  4. Maintain and encourage further take-up of our salary sacrifice scheme for staff to purchase bicycles at significant discounts to promote cycling to work (currently at c. 25% of staff)
  5. Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by improving office recycling facilities

Our carbon footprint was most recently measured in 2012. We are Carbon Smart certified.
