In June 2011 IFS researchers travelled to Washington to take part in the World Bank's 'Equity Day', an event designed to inform the Bank's future plans and policies. Drawing on the IFS's long-standing cutting-edge research on inequality and tax and social insurance design, and on recent work analysing tax reforms in Mexico and pension reforms in Chile, the IFS presented on Tax Policy and Equity. Following this, the World Bank plans to engage, in collaboration with the IFS, in further research on issues in tax and social insurance design and analysis in Mexico and in other countries, to inform better public policy. A particular priority is developing the tax simulation tool for Mexico, MEXTAX, and using it as the basis for models for other countries.
