The French state pension system is highly complex, comprising more than 38 different public schemes. Drawing on background research and study of pension systems across many countries, IFS researcher Antoine Bozios published recommendations for a complete revamp of this complex system, in collaboration with a colleagues at the Paris School of Economics. Following this publication, the French Senate ordered a review of the proposals; these IFS researchers gave evidence to the Select Committee of the French National Assembly and French Senate. The proposals were also covered widely by the media, including in Le Monde, Les Echos, Challenge, L’Express and Liberation. The French government is now in the process of legislating changes to the pension system.
