IFS research has looked at the options for a pupil premium in the school funding system, assessing the rationale and analysing how it would affect school finances. The research was launched at a conference attended by policymakers (including those responsible for school funding policy), the media and academics. Key findings were widely quoted in the media and the work was frequently referenced during the general election campaign by all sides of the debate. This work will allow us to provide a rapid assessment of any policy proposals put forward by the new coalition government for a pupil premium.
