Informing the 2009/10 Higher Education Funding Review
Impact on Society
Drawing on previous work, IFS researchers have twice given evidence to the ‘Browne Review’ into the future of higher education funding. Using innovative methods, we provided estimates of the financial implications of a number of possible reforms, such as increasing fees and raising interest rates on student loans. The evidence we presented has been used extensively by policy makers, university representatives (such as Universities UK, 1994 Group, Universities Alliance, and GuildHE), and the NUS in the ongoing debate about how best to fund the higher education sector.
