The impact of month of birth on child development
This seminar will launch the final report of a study which has been looking at the differences in outcomes between children born at the start and end of the academic year. The seminar will bring together all the work of the study, covering both cognitive and non-cognitive outcomes, and will show how these differences evolve through childhood and whether they persist into adulthood. We will focus particularly on what drives the differences in outcomes that we observe between children born in different months and will suggest how policy-makers might best address these challenges. It will provide an opportunity for researchers, policy-makers and practitioners to discuss the findings and their implications for policy and practice. The study has been funded by the Nuffield Foundation and was undertaken by a team from the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
