School funding reform: an empirical analysis of options for a national funding formula
At this briefing IFS researchers will present the findings of a new report entitled 'School funding reform: an empirical analysis of options for a national funding formula.' This work has been supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The Government intends to make significant reforms to the school funding system in England over the next few years. In particular, it is considering a single national funding formula for schools, which would leave local authorities with far less discretion than they have at present. While this would make school funding more transparent and consistent across the country, it would also inevitably create winners and losers. In this report, we examine the different options for a national funding formula, and analyse their potential impact on funding levels across different schools and areas of the country. This report will be launched on at 10am on Friday 18 November, at the IFS offices on Ridgmount Street, London. Registration will take place from 9.30am. Places are free of charge.
