The Institute for Fiscal Studies is holding a day of talks on issues in public economics of interest to undergraduates in economics and related disciplines. The aim will be to focus on the policy implications of research carried out at the institute. We will also have a number of IFS alumni talking about applying economics in their careers.

The IFS is a research institute that provides high quality economic analysis independent of government, political party or any other vested interest. We look at a wide variety of public policy issues, from productivity growth to poverty reduction, and from promoting employment to ensuring sound public finances. Our focus is on careful modelling of individual, household and firm behaviour, combining cutting-edge empirical analysis with detailed understanding of policy practicalities. We always strive to communicate our findings in a clear and comprehensible way.

We have been asked to deliver similar talks at Oxford and Cambridge over the past few years as part of their public economics programmes. The aim of this event is to make them available to a wider audience. Support from the Economic and Social Research Council will cover travel expenses for those coming from outside London; these will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be no charge to attend; light refreshments will be provided.
