Following the publication of the final recommendations of the Independent Review of Economic Statistics by Professor Sir Charles Bean, the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), the Royal Economic Society (RES) and the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) invite you to a one day conference to discuss what should be done next to implement the recommendations to develop innovative new ways of measuring the economy.

The day will focus on four topics which the review identified as critical areas for further work, and will consider how the wider professional community of economists and statisticians can help develop workable solutions for the Office for National Statistics to implement the review recommendations.

The four topics which will be discussed are

  • Improving the measurement of regional economies, including for the devolved administrations;
  • The need to use more up to date and relevant data sources and statistical techniques to analyse complex economic events;
  • How to measure new developments in today's economy, including the digital economy, innovation and the sharing economy;
  • How to measure and integrate non-traditional economic activity, such as household activity or wider wellbeing measures which go beyond the traditional concept of GDP

The conference is free to attend, but places are limited.
