Naming and shaming, the GAAR, accelerated payments, powers to raid bank accounts… Necessary tools to tackle tax dodging, or an overreach by the taxman that threatens the rule of law?

Philip Baker QC (Gray's Inn Tax Chambers), James Bullock (Pinsent Masons), Jim Harra (HMRC) and Jolyon Maugham (Devereux Tax Chambers) will consider the controversial topic of HMRC powers in a debate organised by the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

This is the third in a series of lectures and debates being organised by the CIOT and the IFS to promote debate among policy-makers, opinion-formers and the wider tax and economics communities on the future of the UK and international tax systems.

This event is free to attend but must be registered for. If you have any questions, or to request an additional place, please contact Lisa Drakley at @email
