Funders

Half of ELSA's funding for Waves 5 and 6 is provided by the National Institute on Aging in the US. The NIA have a keen interest in understanding the multifactorial ageing process and cross-atlantic comparisons will bring deeper understanding to the field. The NIA also funds the Health and Retirement Study, that looks at similar issues to ELSA.

The second half of the budget has been provided by a consortium of UK Government departments involved in areas related to the ageing process:
