The Centre for Early Years and Education Research undertakes research on a broad range of issues including:

  • Evaluation of the impact of Education Programmes/Policies on children's and parents' short and long run wellbeing;
  • The determinants and effects of all types of education and training;
  • Higher Education Funding;
  • Assessing the impact of childcare policies/early years interventions and their impact on children and parents;
  • Ethnic inequality and discrimination issues;
  • The impact of early family circumstances on later childhood and adult outcomes;
  • Program evaluation methods and practice.

The Centre is directed by Lorraine Dearden who has been working in this field for 20 years. The Centre receives funding from a wide range of bodies including the Department for Education and Skills, The Department for Work and Pensions and the ESRC.

 

Centre News

October 2005

CEYER wins contract from the Department for Education and Skills to do a "Scoping Study for Children’s Centres Evaluation". The research is to be carried out as part of a consortium with Oxford University and the National Centre for Social Research.

November 2004

CEYER wins contract from Nuffield foundation to look at Higher Education Funding Policies and the Lifetime Returns to Higher Education and research contract from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to look at the question: At what age should children start primary school? An examination of the effect of primary school admissions policy and age of starting school on childhood academic outcomes".
