Methodology
Date started: 01 April 2010
Researchers at CAYT will use the most appropriate methodology for the policy issue at hand, whether quantitative or qualitative. The team contains experts in a range of specialised quantitative techniques, including econometric and statistical evaluation methods, and specifically encompassing multivariate regression, matching methods, multilevel modelling, latent class analysis, panel data methods and quasi-experimental models. We also have considerable experience of analysing survey data and team members have made use of all the main UK large scale longitudinal datasets. Of particular relevance to the centre is our extensive experience of:

  • The Longitudinal Study of Young People in England (LSYPE);
  • DfE's linked administrative data combining the National Pupil Database (NPD), Individual Learner Records (ILR) and Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA) data;
  • The British Cohort Study (BCS70), including the "children of the BCS70" collected in 2004, and the National Child Development Study (NCDS);
  • The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC);
  • The Labour Force Survey (LFS)
